As the fight for Ebola continues, school heads in Mitooma district have asked the government to support them with materials used in Standard operating procedures and more water supply due to financial constraints within their budgets.
Our reporter visited some schools to check on the implementation of SOPs and schools that included Ryakahimbi primary, Ijumo progressive, Kabira secondary, Nyakishojwa primary, Kabira central, Nyakishojwa secondary, all of which were found to have hand washing facilities but still face the challenges limited water supply due to the dry season.
Speaking to our reporter Alfred Ashaba, the headteacher Nyakishojwa primary school noted that they are trying to meet the standards however, the government didn't give them money to buy some of the requirements as they used to do during COVID 19 era.
Bernard Ahimbisibwe, the headteacher of Ryakahimbi Primary School, noted that they use over 10 jerricans of liquid soap every week and the budget is met by the capitation grant, which would be handling other issues.
Meanwhile, Mwere Bamwesigye Innocent, the director of Ijumo Progressive Secondary School, asked government head teachers to copy from private institutions and learn to use the available resources to meet their needs.
The Mitooma district RDC Paddy Kayondo warned that schools found not following the Ebola standard operating procedure instituted by the Ministry of Health will face the law.
