Man Arrested in Kampala Over Suspected Government Stores

BFM News Desk||
Police in Kampala have arrested a 36-year-old man on allegations of unlawful possession of suspected government stores following an intelligence-led operation in Kawempe Division.

The suspect, Prosper Turinawe, a driver attached to a private security company and a resident of Kyebando Central, was arrested on June 21, 2026, after security agencies received information linking him to the possession of a firearm along Mawanda Road.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, officers from Wandegeya Police Station launched an operation after receiving reports that a man had been seen carrying a pistol in the area.

Preliminary investigations established that the suspect had been staying at a lodge along Mawanda Road. Police mounted a search operation, but he initially managed to evade arrest.
However, follow-up intelligence enabled officers to track and intercept him at around 6:00 a.m. During the arrest, police reportedly recovered 13 rounds of ammunition from his possession.

The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish the source and intended use of the ammunition, as well as whether additional suspects may be connected to the case.

Police have urged members of the public to continue sharing information that can assist security agencies in preventing crime and enhancing public safety.
