Retired Major General Kahinda Otafiire has questioned the continued existence and strategic relevance of the government stock farm in Njeru, arguing that the area is rapidly becoming a hub for industrial growth and investment.
In an article published on his X (formerly Twitter) account earlier today, Otafiire said the planned Jinja–Kampala Highway is expected to further unlock investment opportunities in the region, raising questions about the future use of the land occupied by the stock farm.
He cited a letter dated 17 February 2023, in which President Yoweri Museveni directed the Ministers of Agriculture, Lands, Housing and Urban Development, and Justice and Constitutional Affairs to explore the possibility of allocating 450 acres of the stock farm to Modern Ventures Limited.
According to Otafiire, the directive was issued despite court decisions which, he argues, had already determined that the stock farm no longer had a valid claim over land in Njeru following a court-ordered re-entry.
In the article, Otafiire questioned whether the stock farm still serves a strategic national purpose or whether its continued presence could be intended to facilitate future compulsory land acquisition for interests yet to be disclosed.
